Q: I did read the schematic. That is why I have questions. It has BS1 needs to be shorted to VDD. There is no BS1 on drawing. Does that mean to short R3? Is R4 left in? It says to short D2 to D1. Only D1 is on schematic. Short R5? Is R6 left in? R6 actually is a 910 kohm resistor instead of the 473 kOhm shown in schematic. What precisely do I do to make it I2C?

Q: How do I convert this to IIC? Do I unsolder the R4 and R6 pins and put them on R3 and R5? Or what is the procedure? Thanks.

I was going to show what I did but my writeup was over 1200 characters. Worked well. Supplied cable is for charging only, no data. Humidity sensor is not accurate.

Took about 5 hours to assemble without instructions. It is obvious where the components go. I took my time. Make sure you bend the capacitors that will be underneath the micro so they won't interfere with the micro. Device receives local FM radio stations very clearly on upstairs of house. There is a little static when used downstairs of house. It seems like the screws for assembling the acrylic case could have been a little longer. Also, the one mistake that I know I made was to attach the speaker wires on the front of the PCB. If you attach the speakers on the back of the PCB, you'll have less issues with the wires interfering with the acrylic case. This is essentially a solder practice kit since, once assembled, there is little you can modify without a lot more knowledge of the programming. It was fun to assemble. The buttons control the following (going from left to right): power, volume (up), volume (down), channel seek (up), channel seek (down), LED control. It seems that if this is stereo FM, like the LCD says, it should have come with 2 speakers. I like the fact that it operates off of 5 V. It looks like it consumes about 80 mA at 5 V (according to my USB meter) when everything is operating.

BG223217432 There is a polyfuse UF250 (that square yellow device that looks like a capacitor) that will open circuit at 2.5 Amps.

These OLEDs are my go-to displays now for my projects. Way better than LCD displays. In this particular one, the top 16 pixels are yellow and the rest are blue. I2C only needs 4 wires. The SSD1306 (not SSD136) library is easy to use. There are tutorials everywhere on how to use these. Remember the address on these is usually 0x3C. I ordered some plastic shells for these displays - can't wait to get them! I tested the unit and all the supplied sensors through the Arduino IDE using the examples. Everything worked OK. The charging cable thing seems a little dodgy as it appears that the magnet isn't strong enough to keep a good connection. I use the charger base I got with the M5Stack-Fire, since it is much more stable. There is a decent amount of documentation on how to use this in the Arduino IDE. For example, I was easily able to modify the PIR example such that the RGB NeoPixels light when motion is detected and the unit makes a beep. I was able to annoy everyone in the house with that -- mission accomplished. There is a lot more to explore in this M5Stack universe. I ordered quite a few different gadgets which I'll be investigating as well as other features and applications.

I tested this with the M5Go. I just ran the Arduino example program. It easily identified both UID RFID cards I tried. One was a fob and the other a card (see picture). I think both a sample UID card and a PICC card should have been included Banggood sells a non-M5Stack version for about half the price that includes a sample card and fob (they are probably UID).. It's nice that this unit runs on I2C because with an I2C expander, your I2C port doesn't need to be used up. Regardless, this unit works as advertised and interfaces well in the M5Stack environment.

I tested these batteries at 135 mA, which I suspect is a much higher current than designed. i used a FX-35 load bank, a INA219 current sensor, a SD card adapter and an Arduino Nano V3. All of this can be purchased from Banggood. I also tested a Harbor Freight 9V alkaline battery for comparison. The results showed that the HF battery lasted longer but also had a lower voltage. I don't know what current the capacity rating of 800 mAh is determined, so don't draw conclusions from the data regarding the rated capacity. The good thing about the OKCell battery is that I can charge it up and use it over and over. The Harbor Freight battery I have to throw away. Others have taken these batteries apart and have shown that they are comprised of 2 LiPo cells in parallel. There is DC/DC boost converter to bring the voltage to 9 V. There is also protection circuitry to prevent overcharge, overdischarge, and overtemp. I like the fact that they can be charged with a regular USB micro cable. If your application requires pure DC voltage, be aware that the switching in the DC/DC converter causes a little noise. Still, these are very handy to use for a temporary power source.

I got the blue ones. I hooked it up to a 5.00 V source and it read 4.91 V. So, I adjusted the pot and now it is accurate. I didn't measure how that adjustment holds over the 3.2 V to 30 V range. But it looks good for the 5V range where I'm usually at.

Q: Does anyone know what the 20Kohm variable resistor does? I can not see or hear anything happening when I adjust it. has anyone managed to find a schematic for the bottom circuit board?

BG223217432 The variable resistor is to adjust how fast the blue LEDs on the base "breathe." I have not found a schematic; however, everything is self-evident with the exception that you need to solder M3X10 screws to act as a guide for the springs. It's too bad they didn't program some Christmas music instead of Fur Elise.

OK, I've played around with it for a few days. Able to get video and pictures. Able to figure out how to use the buttons to light LEDs, get battery voltage, etc. But honestly, I'm not sure it is worth the effort to learn this RISC based device when the rest of the M5Stack family appears to be ESP32 based. I really had to search to get exact syntax for use in the MaixPy IDE. I haven't figured out how to use the Grove port yet. Like why are the LED for red GPIO6 but for the other colors, like green, I have to use GPIOHS9? Or why are the pins on button a and button b, 36 and 37, but they are references as GPIO1 and GPIO2? I would have guessed, GPIOH36 and GPIOH37. There doesn't seem to be a complete cross-reference between the M5StickV pins and how they should be referenced in MaixPy. Or what all the board_info definitions are for this device. It is annoying that the microphone function doesn't work and there is no wifi. Also, it seems to want to restart when you turn if off. But for what documented functions I did find, it seems to work I may still try to use this to take a bunch of pictures when motion is detected (in my home office). But I bought a lot of M5Stack stuff that I need to get through and will be leaving MaixPy for now, and go back to UIFlow, Python, and Arduino IDE for the ESP32 stuff. I attached a picture of a kitty I took on the device. He was watching me while I was learning about this.

I want to test some battery capacities, so I got this to monitor the current and voltage. I hooked it up to a load bank, a 9 V battery, an ammeter, and an Arduino. In the picture, I drew a red rectangle around the INA219. I programmed the load bank for 100 mA. When I started the test, the INA219 reported 118 mA and the ammeter reported 117 mA. So the accuracy is satisfactory. Also, the voltage reported by the INA219 was within 10 mV of the voltage I measured with a voltmeter. So far, I'm happy with the performance of this product. Be sure you get the ground wires placed correctly, it makes a big difference. My next step is to add an SD card to this so that I can store the data. I plan to discharge some 9V batteries at 100 mA, so it might take 2 to 5 hours. So, I need to store that data on the card.

Nice fun kit to put together and it works when you're through. I tracked the time for 9 days and it was within a second or two of the time on my computer. Must be plugged into USB Mini to display as the battery is only to keep time while the unit is asleep. There is a slight uneven pixel illumination but it is not a major issue. The picture I included for some reasons highlights this more than in real life. Would have been nice to be able to swivel it up a little for easier viewing. There are a lot of settings on it and they all work well. Today, the clock is wishing me a happy Thanksgiving Day. I hope everyone else is having the same.

This was an easy and fun project to put together. I checked it on my oscilloscope and it generated triangle, square, and sine waves as expected. There are limits to its capability (for instance, in the higher frequency ranges) but it works well. I powered it off a standard 9V rectangular battery using a barrel jack adapter. The documentation that came with it is not extensive but it is good enough.

I checked one out with a sample program using Arduino. There are all sorts of programs available on the web. This program brings the LED through all the color spectrum both flashing and solid. I followed recommendation to use 1000 uF cap on power, 470 ohm resistor on data line, and separate 5V power source, even though I'm only testing one. LED worked perfectly. I wish I could get some conductive stainless steel thread on Banggood to test that out with these as well.

Draws close to 100 mA with full brightness and all segments displaying, so make sure you aren't powering it directly off your microcontroller pins. I powered it with a separate 5V source, with common ground. Default I2C address is (0x70). The I2C backpack is so nice, eliminating the need for lots of wires. The display is red and very bright at the top brightness setting. I did a quick test of it with an Arduino. I had a potentiometer analog output displayed (0 to 1023) and the brightness determined by the same potentiometer output. Brightness settings from 0 to 15, in the library I used worked great (see picture). The I2C backpack uses the HT16K33 chip, so any library compatible with that chip should work.
