Remarkably terrifying arcs from this tiny device. I was sceptical that the listing photo was representative of the actual product, so I was pleasantly surprised to see some strong arcs out of it. The primary appears to be a single turn and the secondary many turns on a flat PCB. One knob seems to control power and the other the periodicity of the discharge (which is loud!) Thoroughly recommend it to scare your neighbours and your children.

I was always fascinated as a kid with the battles of Tesla and Edison in high voltage physics. Aren't those huge Van de Graff generators awesome? Anyway, as a Halloween entertainment for kids, ordered this through Banggood. The construction seems to be very solid and after a nervous turn of the potentiometer, the fireworks start. So I managed to demonstrate inductive lighting to the grandkids (Health and Safety terrifies teachers!) without harming myself or them. Kept them amused for at least twenty minutes. Surprisingly good! The product photos are long exposure, but probably only about two seconds. It really sparks very brightly, and loudly. Arcs several centimeters. The sparks don't hurt my fingers at all, but they look like they would. The music function is odd - at first I thought the switch on the front was on/off, but actually it switches between being controlled by the frequency/amplitude knobs, and going into music mode - but it only reacts to square-wave music. Playing "normal" audio through the jack won't activate any sparking. The provided square-wave tunes are pretty lame, Jingle Bells is the only one I used much. It's possible to encode any MIDI into square wave, with a little homework though. It seems to be able to generate even more lightning in music mode than manual control mode, maybe. I don't run manual mode at full output for long! It's very very loud. Arrived assembled and ready to use - not a soldering kit. Build quality seems solid. The whole base is an aluminium heatsink. No overheating issues in my experience. The provided 63V power supply unit struggles to fill the capacitors after it's turned on, sometimes. Especially if it hadn't been sitting off for very long. Maybe not good at starting hot? It gets there within couple of minutes, and then can run as long as you like. This might all be because my local AC power is only 100V, at the very bottom of the rated 100-240V input. Five star product anyway.

item arrived perfectly, this is an awesome bit of kit, and it dosen fail to impress, the sound from the mini lightning bolts adds to the exitment of it all . I was playing around with a metal haylide bulb, and the bulb will flicker as the electricity toutches the bottom of it. such a cool device, you wont be disappointed.
