Q: can I used the USB port without connecting the battery ?

BG161511357 Hi, I suppose you can. I recommend using a small voltmeter-ampermeter between the USB output port of the solar panel and the consumer, a smart phone for example, so you can actually see what happens. It's a very useful and cheap device. I hope I've been of help to you.
