This thing detects sound with a threshold, the output is only high-low so not analog output (beware of this). You use the potentiometer to set the level at which it triggers and that's it. There is also an LED that lights up when it triggers so it's easy to test. If you want to get the level of sound (like 0-255 or something), this isn't the thing you need, it's just high/low.
