Solder the provided wire to the speaker then plug into the on-board socket. Apply 5V then press red record button and hold as you record your voice or other sound with the on-board electret microphone. Two choices to play back: PlayE button plays the recorded sound length up to ten seconds with one momentary push or PlayL only plays back from the start of the recording and only as long as button is held down. Sound is transferred to on-chip memory so when power is lost and reapplied, the recorded sound is still able to be played. Small LED blinks once giving an indication of record end. Audio out level is quite low but a larger speaker would help in your application. Did not accurately measure current but seemed to be in 5 to 10 MA range in play back. Also I did stress the voltage to 8 Volts and while it might damage the ISD Chip long term, mine survived but audio was distorted so the circuit seems tolerant of voltage over the specified 5V.

Arrived earlier than estimated w/o difficulties. Modules are individually packed in antistatic sacs. Have not tried them yet, but they look like the pictures and seems to be good quality goods.
