tested quickly on an AA battery, it worked. in reality the device send the current every 1.5 seconds with a beep, so it does not detect if you have contact or not (i have the mini usb version). but for the price it's cool. only 2 drawbacks are on the solder pins: it seems they are not removable and they are not isolated on a long distance, the distance where you hold it with your fingers... i'm not sure what happens if your fingers are wet... i isolate them with some thermalshrink tubes for safety.

  • somekindofdevil You don't need to isolate pins. Output voltage is just 4.2 volts. So, you wouldn't even feel anything if you lick them.

  • mirceac @somekindofdevil ??? Why don't you lick them...I would like to be there seeing you!

  • GaryQT you don't need high voltage for spot welding just high current

  • menvert Yep as stated the low voltage means it wont penetrate the skins resistance.
But I would think it WILL give you quite a kick on your tongue as it's much more conductive/less resistive, probably not deadly though as it wont be crossing your heart

  • Volker Electrically nothing can harm the operator, since 4.2V cannot drive a dangerous current through operator's body. The only accident which could happen is damaging the device by short circuiting and injure the operator by fire. Therefore no extra insulation is necessary, but it is recommended to wear protection gloves.

  • ResSet High current at such a low voltage will not do much harm. But if there is damage to the skin, it can be unpleasant

  • nullvoxel itdoes have an auto-detect mode. You enable it by first turning on the device and then single pressing the button.

  • BG171117164 @menvert You are so wrong there. You would have to be in the mid to low micro volt range for the skin's natural resistance to block voltage. But with the current this thing works with touching it with your hands will give you a small but nasty 3 degree burn, more so if you are stupid enough to stick you tung on it when it's turned on.
